PSG: Paris mayor gives further details on the sale of the Parc
Recently elected mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire has reaffirmed his commitment to moving forward with discussions with Paris Saint-Germain regarding the sale of the Parc des Princes. Both parties are even keen to reach an agreement by the summer.
Will Paris Saint-Germain continue to make history at the Parc des Princes? Having been at odds with the Paris City Council during Anne Hidalgo’s term of office, the capital’s club has been considering a move for several months now, given the impossibility of purchasing the stadium located in the Auteuil district.
Recently elected mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire had expressed support, during his campaign for the municipal elections, for the sale of the stadium to the reigning European champions.
Grégoire explains his position
And since his victory on 22 March, the politician has indeed re-established contact with PSG on this matter. Appearing on France Info on Monday, Grégoire gave an update on the situation. “I want to resume discussions very soon and I will put the matter before the Paris Council at the extraordinary meeting I will convene for mid-April. I want a mandate because it is not the mayor who decides; ultimately, it is the Paris Council that decides,” he reiterated, whilst making his personal position clear.
“We have a tremendous emotional attachment to our club, and we want it to stay in Paris. We want to create the conditions for it to stay, which is why, from a personal point of view, I said I was in favour of the sale. I don’t believe public money should be used to fund a professional football stadium. I believe the money could be put to much better use elsewhere. I have said that the entire proceeds from the sale of the Parc would be allocated to the creation of new sports facilities and green spaces,” explained Grégoire.
An agreement by the summer?
Whilst the city council’s approval is unlikely to pose an obstacle, one question remains unanswered: at what price can the deal be concluded? To move discussions forward quickly, both sides have already agreed on one point: an agreement is desired by the summer! “We have agreed with the PSG shareholder that we wish to conclude the discussions by the end of the summer at the latest. We need to set ourselves ambitious deadlines; I hope to be able to reach an agreement with them by the summer,” announced Grégoire. In other words, PSG will soon know the future of the Parc…
