The Ligue 1 Team of the Week – Matchday 30

Thanks to his fine performance against Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon’s Afonso Moreira is the Player of the Week. His teammate Endrick, along with Lorient’s Bamba Dieng in particular, also stood out this weekend and feature in the 30th edition of Maxifoot’s Team of the Week.

As in previous seasons, after each league matchday, Maxifoot selects its Team of the Week. The best “eleven” and seven substitutes are chosen based on their performances. Starters receive three points, while substitutes receive one point.

Player of the Match: Afonso Moreira (Olympique Lyonnais)

A superb performance from the Olympique Lyonnais striker! Getting the better of Hakimi, the Portuguese player made the difference and then provided the assist for Endrick’s opening goal. Inspired and incisive, he capitalised on a counter-attacking pass from his Brazilian teammate to find the back of the net. The young talent continued to cause problems for the Parisians with his runs and forced Safonov into a save from a long-range effort. Essential.

Dominik Greif (Olympique Lyonnais)

In fine form, the Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper rose to the occasion in this high-profile fixture. After his team had opened the scoring, the Slovakian provided reassurance by saving a long-range shot from Beraldo. From the resulting corner, he punched the ball clear, and that clearance led to Moreira’s goal. Then, of course, the Gones’ goalkeeper capped off a superb performance by saving Ramos’s penalty and then winning a one-on-one against Kvaratskhelia. Beaten by a shot from Dembélé, he was saved by his crossbar, but had to concede in the dying moments from a Kvaratskhelia strike.

Panos Katseris (Lorient)

What a performance from the right-back! He opened the scoring by following up perfectly on a move set up by Dieng’s hard work, and he nearly set up the Senegalese for a second goal early in the second half. Before that, he also came close to forcing Paixao into an own goal, and he kept the Brazilian well in check during the first half. A standout performance, and a rather unexpected one at that.

Pierre-Ismaëlo Ganiou (RC Lens)

After a quiet spell in his own half, the versatile Lens defender really shone in the final quarter of an hour. Active in attacking runs and present in one-on-one duels, the France Under-21 international gradually got the better of his man. He was rewarded in stoppage time with a decisive header full of determination, a symbol of his team’s self-sacrifice.

Juma Bah (OGC Nice)

At the heart of this five-man defence, the young talent on loan from Manchester City was a real highlight. Up against Fernandez-Pardo, the OGC Nice centre-back displayed great composure in one-on-one situations to get the better of the Lille player. To top it all off, he dealt very effectively with the opposition’s pressing when building play from the back.

Matthieu Udol (RC Lens)

A real dynamo on the left flank, the Lens winger was one of the main sources of danger. His repeated crosses constantly put the Toulouse defence under pressure, creating several chances for his teammates. Very active in defence too, the Frenchman delivered a complete and consistent performance.

Arthur Avom (FC Lorient)

Against Olympique de Marseille, the Lorient player had a field day in midfield, capitalising on Marseille’s lapses to showcase his passing prowess. His two through balls for Dieng led to both goals. And through his work rate, the Lorient player truly influenced the game, winning the majority of his duels.

Adrien Thomasson (RC Lens)

The Lens midfielder embodied his team’s fighting spirit. Highly active even before half-time, at the heart of the pressing and driving the attack, the Artésien captain constantly sought to speed up the play and inject pace into the final third. Scoring the equaliser and coming close to netting a brace shortly afterwards, the former Nantes player was everywhere in this match: precise in his positioning, aggressive in winning the ball back and always ready to reignite his team’s momentum. A true captain’s performance.

Endrick (Olympique Lyonnais)

The Brazilian formed a winning partnership with Moreira. Following a through ball from the Portuguese player, the Olympique Lyonnais forward opened the scoring with a powerful strike. Making good runs, he delivered a fine cross for Abner, whose shot was saved by Safonov. Then, after winning a duel against Vitinha, he set up Moreira for his side’s second goal. After that, the player on loan from Real Madrid never let up in the battle and looked dangerous with a shot that Safonov saved.

Esteban Lepaul (Stade Rennais)

Ligue 1’s top scorer has struck again! Capitalising on a poor clearance from Penders, the Rennes striker broke the deadlock by opening the scoring. A key figure in the game, the former Angers player then provided the assist for Embolo’s goal. He was also involved in the build-up to Al-Tamari’s goal.

Bamba Dieng (FC Lorient)

A fine performance from the striker against his former club. He quickly caused problems for Balerdi, and his hard work allowed Katseris to open the scoring in the first half. After the break, he nearly doubled the lead from a cross by the Greek player, but Rulli made a superb save to deny him. He was eventually rewarded for his efforts with a neat chip to seal the victory.
