On loan to Lyon this winter, striker Endrick could return to Real Madrid if the Spanish club decides to activate a recall clause. It has seven days left to do so.
It’s hard to imagine a better debut. Loaned by Real Madrid during the winter transfer window, Endrick (19) played his first match for Lyon on Sunday. The striker immediately made his mark by securing victory for his new team with a decisive goal against Lille (2-1) in the Coupe de France.
Real negotiated a recall clause
For OL, the arrival of a striker for the second half of the season was a priority. The Brazilian recruit’s first match was therefore a real source of satisfaction. However, the Rhône-based club’s peace of mind could be short-lived. Real Madrid has a buy-back clause that can be activated until 20 January, as revealed by journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The existence of this clause had been mentioned in November, but no official confirmation had been given since then. There was disagreement between the two clubs regarding the deadline for its activation. Real Madrid wanted to have more leeway, with activation possible until 31 January. Conversely, Lyon wanted to set the deadline at 15 January, so as to have sufficient time to react on the transfer market.
It’s not planned, but…
According to the same source, Real Madrid does not plan to activate this clause and is very satisfied with its player’s first steps at Lyon. However, the situation calls for caution. Indeed, Monday’s dismissal of Xabi Alonso, who did not have confidence in the Auriverde, could have an impact on the Madrid club’s future decisions. If Alvaro Arbeloa, newly installed on the bench, were to insist on the player’s return, it would be interesting to see how the Merengue management would react to this possible request.
