Transfer news: who will replace Salah at Liverpool?
After nine seasons at Liverpool, Mohamed Salah will leave the Reds at the end of the season. The Merseyside club already has several ideas for his replacement.
“Hello everyone, unfortunately, this day has come. This is the first part of my farewell; I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.” With these words, Mohamed Salah confirmed on Tuesday that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2025–2026 season.
A major chapter in the Reds’ history is thus about to come to a close. The Egyptian winger is a true legend at Anfield, having scored 255 goals and provided 122 assists in 435 matches across all competitions to date. To succeed him, the English club’s management have already identified a number of potential replacements.
Olise and Diomande top the list
Like many European heavyweights, Liverpool would like to sign Michael Olise (24). The French international is having an exceptional season (16 goals and 27 assists in 39 matches) and is naturally an attractive prospect for Arne Slot’s side. The problem is that the former Crystal Palace player is considered untransferable by Bayern Munich, who are very confident about the future of a player under contract until 2029
Given the complexity of this situation, Liverpool could turn their attention to Yan Diomande (19). Having been monitored for several months, the RB Leipzig winger appears to be a credible alternative. The German club are reportedly demanding nearly €100 million to part with the former Leganés player, who has scored 11 goals and provided 8 assists in 29 matches this season. A very high fee, even though the Reds proved last summer that they were prepared to spend big money.
A third option in Italy
Finally, RMC reported on Wednesday that there is interest in Francisco Conceiçao (23). Under contract until 2030 with Juventus, the Portuguese player would represent a more financially accessible option. But he is also less appealing from a sporting perspective (4 goals and 3 assists in 34 matches). We will also need to keep an eye on Liverpool’s stance regarding Bradley Barcola (23), who is negotiating a contract extension with PSG beyond June 2028. Should talks reach an impasse, the English club might be tempted to revisit this option.
