Liverpool: Salah announces he is leaving this summer! (official)
Despite having a contract until June 2027, winger Mohamed Salah has reached a mutual agreement with Liverpool to leave the English club at the end of the 2025–26 season. The Egyptian has spoken out to announce the news.
A real bombshell! Although under contract until June 2027, winger Mohamed Salah officially announced on Tuesday that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2025-2026 season.
In a statement, the Reds revealed an agreement between the two parties for an amicable parting of ways.
Mr Salah – “Leaving is never easy”
In a video posted on social media, the Egyptian international addressed the English club’s fans. “Hello everyone, unfortunately, this day has come. This is the first part of my farewell; I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. I’d like to start by saying that I never imagined how much this club, this city, these people, would become a part of my life. Liverpool isn’t just a football club. It’s a passion, a history, a mindset. I can’t put it into words for people who haven’t experienced this club. We’ve celebrated victories. We’ve won the biggest trophies and we’ve gone through the toughest times of our lives together,” said Salah, referring to the death of Diogo Jota last summer.
“I want to thank everyone who has been part of this club during my time here, especially my teammates, both past and present. And to the fans, I can’t thank you enough. You supported me during the best period of my career, but also through the toughest times; I’ll never forget that and I’ll always carry it with me. Leaving is never easy. You’ve given me the best time of my life; I’ll always be one of you. This club will always be my home, for me and my family. Thank you for everything. Thanks to each and every one of you, I’ll never walk alone,” concluded the Liverpool legend.
A chapter is closing at Liverpool…
From a sporting perspective, this early departure comes as no surprise. After an exceptional 2024–2025 season, Salah has struggled this season: 10 goals and 9 assists in 34 matches across all competitions. At 33, he was no longer untouchable under manager Arne Slot. However, no one expected an announcement as early as March, given that Liverpool still have objectives to achieve as a team in the Premier League (5th), the Champions League (quarter-finals against Paris Saint-Germain) and the FA Cup (quarter-finals against Manchester City).
In any case, the English club is set to bid farewell to one of the legends of its history: having been with the club since 2017, the Pharaoh has so far scored 255 goals and provided 122 assists in 435 matches across all competitions. He has also won numerous titles, including the Premier League (2020, 2025), the Champions League (2019) and the FA Cup (2022). A glorious chapter in the Reds’ history will come to an end with Salah’s departure.
