Chelsea: The Blues suffer a thrashing

Chelsea not only suffered a fourth consecutive defeat, but were thoroughly thrashed this Saturday at Everton (0-3) in the Premier League. The mid-table teams are closing in on them in the table, and Liam Rosenior’s future is now in doubt…

Liam Rosenior is facing his first crisis as a manager at the top level. Two and a half months after his appointment as Chelsea manager, the former Strasbourg boss already seems to be losing his way.
Following the humiliation suffered against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League (2-5, 0-3), the Blues were also thrashed at Everton (0-3) this Saturday in the Premier League, giving the impression they have no idea where they are heading.

Chelsea are losing big

Whether there’s a mole in the dressing room or not, whether the opposition knew the line-up before the match or not, it makes no difference to Chelsea. Following the two heavy defeats against PSG in the Champions League and the loss in between to Newcastle (0-1) in the league, the Blues suffered another humiliating defeat at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday, against a far superior Everton side.
In the table, Chelsea have missed the chance to capitalise on Liverpool’s slip-up and reclaim fifth place, which is guaranteed to secure a Champions League spot (an extra Champions League place for the two leagues with the best European performances this season). But that’s not all: the Toffees are now just two points behind, and Brentford could close the gap with a win at Leeds later this evening. More broadly, the whole mid-table pack is closing in…

What lies in store for Rosenior?

Where is Chelsea heading? And with whom? What does the future hold for Rosenior? Having made a promising start – 10 wins from his first 15 matches before this run of poor form – the British manager is already facing harsh criticism in England. Yet, he was still looking to the long term in recent days, speaking of the upcoming transfer window and the confidence of his board, “which is very exciting for Chelsea’s future”, in his own words. He’d better make sure that future doesn’t take shape without him.
