Transfer news – PSG: Is the Dembélé camp putting pressure on the club with a move to City?
For several weeks now, Paris Saint-Germain and striker Ousmane Dembélé have been discussing a potential contract extension, which is due to expire in June 2027. Whilst there remains a significant gap between PSG’s offers and the former Rennes player’s demands, his agent has met with Manchester City.
Ousmane Dembélé’s future is at the forefront of Paris Saint-Germain’s concerns at the start of 2026. It is no secret that extending the striker’s contract, which runs until June 2027, is a priority for the reigning European champions. But only under certain conditions.
Financially, the capital club is refusing to splash out on this deal. And so there is a significant gulf between PSG’s offers and the demands of the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner.
Dembélé’s agent has held talks with City
Discussions between the two parties, which have been ongoing for several weeks, have made no progress. And according to reports in the Catalan daily Sport on Thursday, the French international’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, has met with Manchester City’s sporting director, Hugo Viana!
For the time being, City have not entered into any concrete negotiations regarding this matter, but this meeting is seen as an initial contact to explore the possibility of Dembélé joining the Sky Blues next summer. Within the English club, the Frenchman’s profile is particularly highly regarded as a potential reinforcement for manager Pep Guardiola’s attacking line-up.
A way to put pressure on PSG?
Of course, this rumour could serve the interests of the 2018 World Cup winner’s entourage. By leveraging City’s supposed interest, the Dembélé camp may attempt to apply pressure to force the Parisian management’s hand regarding a contract extension… A dangerous game, nonetheless: following a long-running saga over a potential new contract, PSG did not hesitate to part ways with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was sold to the Citizens last summer.
