As OGC Nice’s highest-paid player, attacking midfielder Sofiane Diop owes his salary to a mistake made by the Côte d’Azur club. A slip-up by the Nice management has resulted in a 20% increase in costs.
As it does every year, the daily newspaper L’Equipe published its investigation into salaries at Ligue 1 clubs on Thursday. At OGC Nice, attacking midfielder Sofiane Diop is currently the highest-paid player, with a gross monthly salary estimated at €350,000.

“All the gross amounts agreed upon by the parties have been transcribed as net amounts in the final contract,” revealed the regional daily. An incredible blunder, which has resulted in a 20% increase in expenditure for Nice’s management.

With the withdrawal of the INEOS group, which is still looking for a buyer, Nice now wants to limit the financial damage and hopes to use the upcoming summer transfer window to trim its wage bill. Unsurprisingly, Diop finds himself on his way out, along with several other high earners in the Nice dressing room. The Gym can no longer afford to spend without counting the cost…
