PSG: Dembélé sets the record straight on his future
Currently in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a contract extension, Ousmane Dembélé has expressed no concerns. On the contrary, the Parisian forward is optimistic about reaching an agreement.
At a press conference too, Ousmane Dembélé (28) can catch everyone off guard. The Paris Saint-Germain forward surprised everyone when discussing his future on Monday.
The Frenchman’s entourage has begun talks with the Paris-based club regarding a contract extension. These discussions are of no concern whatsoever to the Ballon d’Or winner, who is confident that his agent, Moussa Sissoko, and the club’s management can reach an agreement.
Dembélé wants to stay
“There is no reason not to extend my contract,” reassured the Parisian, who is under contract until 2028. “But I’m not the one making the decisions; the contract talks are between the club and my agent. I haven’t been involved in that since the start of my career.” Optimistic, Dembélé contradicts the trend suggested in recent months. Several sources had indicated that the Ballon d’Or winner was demanding a salary commensurate with his status, and incompatible with PSG’s plans.
“We have a policy at the club, a ‘salary cap’ for players; everyone knows this and respects it,” said president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi on Canal+ last January. “The team and the club come before everyone else.” ” The chairman’s statement hinted at a certain tension. And the recent meeting between the player’s agent and Manchester City’s sporting director did little to ease the situation. It should be noted, however, that journalist Fabrizio Romano was quick to deny any negotiations between the Citizens and the Dembélé camp, who are keen to ensure that PSG is fully aware of their intentions.
