Transfer news: Mudryk – a fresh start in Strasbourg?

Provisionally suspended following a positive doping test in December 2024, Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk is fighting to prove his innocence. Depending on the Ukrainian’s final sanction, his comeback could take place in Strasbourg.

Mykhaylo Mudryk’s career is currently on hold. Signed for €70 million from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, the winger had a disappointing start at Chelsea on the pitch.
Then, in December 2024, his time with the Blues took an unexpected turn: the 25-year-old was provisionally suspended after testing positive for meldonium in a doping control.

Mudryk: a future in Strasbourg?

Despite some far-fetched rumours surrounding him, including possible career changes to athletics or even as a driver, Mudryk continues to fight to prove his innocence. For now, the Ukrainian international is still awaiting a final verdict, but faces a maximum four-year ban if it is found that he took meldonium intentionally.
Under contract until June 2031, the former Shakhtar star continues to be backed by the Blues, who are already thinking about his future. Thus, should he receive a short suspension or even have the charges dropped, the London club could offer Mudryk a loan move to Strasbourg to help him get back on track, according to the daily newspaper L’Equipe on Monday. As a reminder, both teams are owned by the same owner, BlueCo.

The Ukrainian is up for anything

What of the Krasnohrad native’s intentions? Aware that there is too much competition at Chelsea in attack for him to relaunch his career after such a long spell on the sidelines, Mudryk is already open to a move to Alsace. “There is a possibility he could go to Strasbourg. He would surely have the humility to accept this challenge after almost two years without playing, if he were offered a loan,” said an English source. But before considering a comeback, he must wait for the outcome of this case…
