Transfer news: Will PSG make a move for Enzo Fernández this summer?
Having impressed in the first leg at the Parc des Princes, Enzo Fernández will be one of the key Chelsea players for PSG to watch, as the club rates the Argentine highly.
Scoring a goal and providing an assist last Wednesday at the Parc des Princes, Enzo Fernandez put in a standout performance despite Chelsea’s heavy defeat (2-5) in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. Will it be enough to convince Paris Saint-Germain to make a move next summer?
An uncertain future at Chelsea
In January, L’Equipe reported on the reigning European champions’ interest in the Argentine midfielder. Since then, the Parisian club has maintained contact with his entourage, and his strong performance last week could reinforce PSG’s desire to sign the World Cup winner during the summer transfer window. Especially as the player is pondering his future in London.
However, the situation looks set to be complicated: having been bought by the Blues for €121 million and under contract until 2032, Fernández represents a significant investment. Yet, in Argentina, the idea of a move this summer has not been ruled out. TyC Sports confirms that the player could be looking for a change of scenery, particularly if Chelsea were to miss out on the next Champions League. With eight games remaining in the Premier League, the Blues sit in 6th place, three points behind the top four.
PSG’s interest confirmed
The Argentine media outlet also confirms that PSG is a possible destination, as is Real Madrid, who have already shown interest in previous transfer windows. The Spanish club has never really found a replacement for Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos in midfield, whilst Paris already have a well-stocked midfield and signed the promising Dro Fernandez this winter. But Enzo Fernandez, aged 25, is an established player and his versatility could appeal to Luis Enrique. The Parisian manager will have another chance to watch him closely this Tuesday (9pm) at Stamford Bridge during the second leg of the round of 16 against the Blues.
