Having failed to make his mark during his spell at Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike is set to face the capital club again in the Champions League. And the French international’s progress has not gone unnoticed by the Parisians.
Since his spell at Paris Saint-Germain, Hugo Ekitike has taken his game to a whole new level. After struggling during his time at the capital club (2022–2024), the 23-year-old striker has completely turned his career around at Frankfurt and is now thriving in a Liverpool shirt.
In the Champions League quarter-finals, the French international will face PSG once again.
Vitinha recalls his qualities
With 17 goals and six assists in 43 matches across all competitions this season, Ekitike is expected to start in Wednesday’s first leg at the Parc des Princes. And the Parisians, like midfielder Vitinha, are well aware of the young French striker’s qualities.
“He’s a fantastic lad; he’s got a lot of qualities – you could already see that. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right situation. He’s bounced back well. We hope he doesn’t play well tomorrow. But I wish him all the best for the future,” the Portuguese international remarked with a smile at the press conference.
Luis Enrique assesses Ekitike’s progress
For his part, PSG manager Luis Enrique also agreed to assess Ekitike’s progress. “Normally I don’t talk about players who aren’t at PSG. But Hugo has made great progress in Germany and at Liverpool. He was very young here and has improved a lot,” replied the Spanish manager. Suffice to say that the threat posed by Ekitike will not be underestimated by PSG.
